Want to know an easy way to tell whether there is interest in a game on Steam? It gets Greenlit so fast that the writers who were really excited for their next installment of Greenlight Spotlight has to scrap the article as they’re finishing the last spellcheck…

Regardless of my lost writings, 2 Zombie Games has really found a great game in Quest Hunter, and I had the chance to ask the team a few questions about themselves and the game. This talented cast of developers know success, with their hit game Dead Route amassing over one million downloads, and Color Journey receiving an honorable mention at the Unity Game Developer Contest.

While talking to the 2 Zombie team, you could really feel the enthusiasm they had for this game.

Interview with 2 Zombie Games

Slickster: What was the inspiration for the game?

2 Zombie Games: My team and I always wanted to make our own RPG with a good story and addictive gameplay. After we have gone through several projects, it was decided to take up RPG game. The idea and design were the result of a long brainstorming. We are inspired by: Bastion, Oceanhorn and Magika.

How long has it been in development?

Development began at the end of 2015.

What features (if any) do you hope to add as Quest Hunter progresses in development?

We want insert into gameplay lots of puzzles. And develop the game world with new locations and exciting story twists.

questWill there be a story in the game?

Having a story in Quest Hunter plays a major role. I can say that it will be laced with a good dose of humor and not make the player bored. The player will have to grab land, build a base, solve various quests, interact with NPCs, resist the insidious enemies and of course find a mountain of treasures.

What has been the biggest challenge so far?

At the moment the main challenge for us was the quest system. The game is being developed on the Unity engine, which largely facilitates and accelerates the process. But not without the self-made big things like the quest system. This is the main and most important part of the game.

What made you want to develop this game in particular?

As I said earlier, we love RPG games and want to create our own. The concept of Quest Hunter was selected as a result of prolonged brain-storming and was liked of all members of our team.

With how successful your previous games have been how do you hope to translate that to this game?

Our last experience was on mobile devices. We released a few relatively successful games that keep our INDIE Studio afloat. Our team has quite a lot of experience in game development. Each of us spent a lot of time in big companies. We have well-established development process, where everyone knows their job. And now we decided to develop game for Steam, because it’s the most appropriate platform for RPG games in terms of audience.

Is there a demo available now?

We have techno demo for about half an hour of game time. Running under Windows and Mac.

What brought you into game development in the first place?

Each of us played games from an early age. And the choice of a profession in the gaming industry was a natural.

Your previous games have been mobile games, with Steam being a PC gaming service how have you been challenged?

We love to play games both on mobile and on PC. And because on mobile we have released a few games, then it’s time for Steam, as part of the evolution of the team.

What do you believe is the biggest key factor for success for this game?

We made a big bet on the game story. Coupled with good art, interesting puzzles and addictive gameplay that should give the game a chance to succeed.

2 Zombie is proud of what they’ve accomplished and are ready to show that they didn’t just get lucky. Quest Hunter is a great throwback to treasure hunting RPG’s of yore. If you want to check it out on Steam click here.
