The Indy 500 isn’t the only reason to get excited for Indianapolis in the summer. One of the best convention environments in the entire country is located here at Indy PopCon. Last year slickster magazine got to spend three Amazing Days seeing all the sights and sounds Indy PopCon has to offer. And we are proud and very excited to be going back this year. We’ll be experiencing some of the best gaming, internet, comic book, TV, movie, Anime fandoms and more this year. Last year we got to meet so many great people and experience so many great things and this year looks to be just as amazing, maybe more.
Indy PopCon Gaming
If you haven’t noticed yet, we really like indie game developers. Whether it’s Kickstarter’s, Steam Greenlight, or served up any other way we love to see it. Last year we got to see early builds for games like smuggle craft, Sausage Sports Club, space Cats in space, or the award-winning Hive Jump. Honestly if we tried to list all the amazing games that we experienced, be here all day. (it would actually be more like three days because that’s where we were at the entire time it seemed.) And we are expecting to see all of the enthusiasm and passion for gaming that we saw last year. Who do you think will win the big prize for best of show?
Okay, I’m not going to lie, seeing Bob Muyskens, Muyskerm was one of the highlights for me. As a long-time fan, being given the opportunity to ask him some questions was very cool. But that wasn’t the only highlight. Getting to meet the wonderful cosplayers with Thousand Faces Cosplay was also wonderful. Seeing the coolest cosplays for fans at Indy PopCon only added to the magic. And you’d be hard-pressed to say that Indy PopCon isn’t bringing the fire this year as well.
When we first announced Indy PopCon’s return in March, there was truly an All-Star cast. And the big names keep on coming. Some of the guests that have joined include Did You Know Gaming, Pro Jarred, Peanut Butter Gamer, The Completionist, and Jesse Cox. And that’s just some of the big gaming personalities. Curtis Armstrong, and Robert Carradine from Revenge of the Nerds have also joined the soiree. And if you are excited about the upcoming Castlevania television series, I have news for you. Executive producer Adi Shankar will be present as well. (And he was on GQ Magazine’s list of most influential Global Indian men in 2014.)
A big surprise for us at Indy Pop Con last year was the ebash gaming. Gaming tournaments and Casual events for games like League of Legends, Dota 2 and the just released Overwatch dominated the scene. And it’s time to get into the tournaments. To Mark II tournaments at this year will be a Call of Duty tournament with a $5,000 prize pool super Smash Brothers with a $1,000 prize. But if you know what where I will be, i’ll be participating at the Overwatch randoms tournament. So if you find yourself getting Frozen by a particularly annoying Mei, that was me.
Indy Pop Con is only three weeks away, but it feels like an eternity. It’s sad that it’s only three days, because it feels like you could spend weeks at the convention and still not experience everything. Conventions like these, the kind that were built by the community that attended it, have a magic all their own. So we’ll see you at Indy Pop Con!
