Friday the 13th is upon us once again.

When it comes to horror icons, Jason Voorhees has the tendency to be the first image that appears in people’s minds. Freddy is a close second, and the third usually is Michael Myers. For today, let’s focus on the two faceless figures with no dialogue, Jason and Michael. I’m also sticking to the original franchises, and ignoring the remakes.

Who has the most kills? Well that should go without saying… It’s obviously Jason. By a landslide as well. Throughout the nine films that involve Jason (not Part I and Part V), he has 148 deaths under his belt. Some in an awesomely gruesome manner. Michael loses this match with only 75 throughout seven films. However, Michael tends to be a little more stealthy in the way he kills. Like in the first one when he slowly appears from the shadows behind Laurie (Jamie Lee Curtis). Jason has the tendency to just be there right in front of you. Like in Part VI when he just drops down and does a triple decapitation with one swing of his machete.

Jason’s best kills:

One of the best kills that Jason has done, I think is in Jason X. Yes, horrible story, but the deaths are the only saving grace of the movie.

I think this was one of the best deaths of the franchise, not only brutal but funny as hell.

Another one would have to be from Part VI. Jason has come back to life and even he doesn’t realize just how powerful he is. The deaths in this movie are just so intense and he really is now powerful supernatural being. Even as a kid, this one was probably my favorite death in the movie. So simple yet effective.

Oh the sleeping bag death from Part VII. Not only is it extremely funny, but a genuinely terrifying way to die; trapped in an small bag, unable to move, not knowing how you are going to go, and then BAM! It’s done… So funny that they had to do it again in Jason X.

The gutting scene from Part III. One of the better more exciting sequels. The story is interesting and this death! Walking on your hands is a pretty good talent, until you meet your demise starting at the balls. I will simply say “ouch.” Even as a mortal, Jason was still able to do some good damage.

Oh the guy in the wheelchair from Part 2. Just a classic death, and it show that Jason is an Equal-Opportunity killer. No discrimination whatsoever. I do kind of feel bad for the guy because he was just about to get laid. But as the classic notion of horror films, you have sex, you die.

And finally, the asshole in the beginning of Freddy vs. Jason. This kill is just epic! It really shows just how powerful Jason really is. An unstoppable supernatural killing machine. And it’s a good life lesson: DON’T BE AN ASSHOLE!

Michael’s best kills:

Now usually Michael has been much more stealthy in the past, but this kill from Part 6 is a good one because you can see her terror of not knowing where he is. Not to mention she was kind of a weak character, but it was still kind of sad that she died. I miss that with modern day horror flicks.

This one has got to be on of the better ones, sequel-wise and kill-wise.From Part 4: The Return of Michael Myers. It’s just so fucking brutal. They think Michael is sound asleep in a coma, when WHAM! That would hurt, I mean even the picture makes you cringe a little. A simple effect, but extremely effective.

A great kill from Halloween H20: 20 Years Later. I love the fact that we only see the aftermath of what he has done. Joseph Gordon-Levitt as he still on his career rise gets it really good. It really is just a hilarious image.

This one is probably my favorite kill. From the original Halloween, Michael is hiding in the closet and pops out as the Bob opens the door. It’s just so creepy and I love that little head tilt that Michael does almost admiring his own handy work.

This is an image that has always been stuck in my head ever since I was a kid.  It would just be a shitty way to go.  Needles don’t really bother me, obviously since I have tattoos, but the fact that one puff of air into the body can instantly kill you just kind makes you think about your own mortality.

In the end they both have some pretty wicked kills. Push come to shove we have to pick a winner and that goes to Jason. Just by the pure fact that he crushes Michael in the kill count. Having said that, they both will stand the test of time in the horror community and hopefully give us more in the coming years.
