Game developer Tomica Ristivojevic, at Quantum Singularity Studio, sent this video to us and asked for some opinions.

Phenotype is an FPS that doesn’t look to reinvent the genre as much as pay homage to the classic games. One can quickly see the nods to Doom, Wolfenstein, and other classic FPS games.

There are the claustrophobic environments, bullet time slowmo sequences, plenty of blood, alien bad guys, destructible environments and more. (We really wanted to watch the hero throw the coffee cup at the alien. Maybe in the beta footage we’ll get that.)

Humor in games sometimes goes unnoticed these with all of the emphasis on survival horror games. Yet, Unity has taken the time to add just a twinge to the trailer. There is a “relaxation room” in the game where alien experiments gone wrong get some well-deserved R&R.

They are carted around in wheel chairs and smacked over the head while lullabies, green grass and water falls sooth their horrific corpse-looking figures. One ever gets smacked over the head for being cranky by an orderly. This adds a breath of fresh of air and reminded us of a time when game developers didn’t always take themselves too serious.

Here’s what the game devs have to say so far…

Phenotype is science fiction First Person Shooter game with horror elements made by Quantum Singularity Studio (QSS). Currently in pre-alpha dev-stage. Whole game design, 3D models, sounds and all illustrations are made by two persons. Using Unity 5 personal edition for game developing, 3D Studio Max for modeling animations and Fruity Loops for sounds and music. All models, sounds and all mentioned elements are unique and made from scratch, designed completely by QSS without using any free assets.

But we want to know what you guys think. Attention hardcore gamers of the FPS genre – leave some comments below. Do you think Phenotype is going to be worth a buy on Steam? What about replay value? Are there any features or game modes you think Unity should include?
