Small Streams Big Dreams: Parallax Stella

Parallax Stella

Written by Tanner Banks, May 12, 2016, at 8:00 p.m.

She’s cute, she’s sarcastic, she does a mean cosplay, and she’ll kick your ass in any shooter ever. When she’s not busy looking like she came from the world of Gurren Lagann, Stella streams on her Twitch channel Parallax Stella where you’ll find a little bit of everything. Whether it’s Bloodborne, Destiny, Just Dance, or whatever else tickles her fancy you and her fellow StetllarRangers are in for a good time.

Origin Story

Always the creative kind, Stella first started showcasing her gaming on YouTube in 2013, where she still uploads videos from her streams. However, one day she grew tired of the recording, editing, and uploading and decided to stream on Twitch instead. With little expectations and a roommate snoozing in the background, Stella would find herself in a world of pure imagination. (That might be a bit of exaggeration.)

While she’s always loved playing games, she had to do it in secret originally. Not being allowed to play video games in the house by her parents, she first got a taste of gaming with her friends and the classic Banjo-Kazooie, and developed a love for the goofy and funny characters. Soon she developed a taste for the Call of Duty series.

Once she got out of the house and into college, she was “kind of going crazy” with games thanks to the new found freedom. After spending a few years at IUPUI (Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis), Stella decided that to achieve her goals of streaming and becoming a voice actor and moved in with her boyfriend, a game developer she met on Twitch, who lived in Los Angeles.

Stella’s Cosplay

If she sounds familiar to you, you might remember that she was Slickster’s Girl of the Week with her cosplays back in late March. As a way to channel her creative interests, cosplay felt natural to Stella, who described it as, “Oh hey, dress up like whatever you want. It’s kind of like Halloween but every day.”

While her parents weren’t huge fans of it, they knew it was a way to help with her express her creativity. As she grew her horizons, Stella’s inspirations grew when she began to watch anime and other media. Soon she began attending conventions. Her first was Anime Crossroads in Indianapolis. She felt so excited.

Whether it is making the costumes or wearing them, Stella always feels proud of the work she puts into her craft. In the future she hopes to do Maka and her scythe from Soul Eater, which is one of her top five anime. (The other four being Cowboy Bepop, Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Sailor Moon, and One Piece.)

Parallax Stella’s Twitch Channel

Recently, Parallax Stella’s channel on Twitch surpassed 5,000 followers. That’s more than I’ve seen for several partnered streamers in my time. While she isn’t sure yet if her channel would get a partnership, she’s well on her way to completing her goal.

Proving that she’s not some eye candy streamer who can’t even fire her rifle in game, Stella’s got some sour to go with her sweet. On more than one occasion I’ve seen her swear so creatively at a demon in Bloodborne, that it would make a sailor blush. And while her moderators are very helpful, she’s more than happy to lay down the law on them. Especially Nighthawk.

When she’s not streaming, she’s either dealing with her trouble-making cats or working out. You can keep up with her feline and fitness madness on her Instagram.

Stella’s carving her own path in the City of Angels, with dreams of voice acting and Twitch streaming on her mind. For now, she kicks back while streaming Dark Souls III, or kicks to the beat when she’s in the mood to Just Dance.

Stella’s made a lot of friends on Twitch and plays a wonderful variety of games, often taking suggestions from the community as well. The community she’s been building is less a channel, and more a place to relax and chat about the day with some games thrown in the mix.

Giving Back

Always happy to help, Stella has done several charity live streams with charities like Extra Life, and most recently one for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, where she celebrated a successful charity campaign with a carrot cake to the face. (Which she did while in a set of dinosaur onsie pajamas.)

You never know just what will happen on the next stream with Parllax Stella except for two things. One, she’s going to swear about something (probably Dark Souls). And two: you’re in for a great time.
