Barbarella
Nerdy guys like science fiction like paramedics like donuts.  When 31 year blonde bombshell Jane Fonda was cast to play the titular role of Barbarella, many nerdy guys flocked to the theater to see her.  Representative of the sci-fi genre, other movies often tried replicate Barbarella’s formula of science plus bikinis. Much less inspired films would cast babes to help their low budget values and appeal to male audiences.  One notorious example came ten years after Barbarella. Starcrash (1978), would take it to the extreme with the female heroine wearing a black leather bikini throughout almost the entire movie.
