Blizzard bans over 1500 players in China

Written by Tanner Banks, June 3, 2016, at 6:50 p.m.

We tried to warn you, China… A few weeks ago news broke that Blizzard will ban first time offenders of the terms of service, but it seems that some people decided to not listen to that. Blizzard said they’d be taking this sort of behavior seriously and they’re certainly walking the walk. Now that justice has rained from above, lets see what Blizzard said once they had the cheaters in their sight. In the official statement, Blizzard said:

“Over the past few days, we have been taking action worldwide against Overwatch accounts who have been found using cheats/hacks/add-ons. We have been working hard to provide a fair gameplay environment for Overwatch players, and will continue to clamp down on players who violate the terms of service with appropriate actions; all illegal doings will be heavily punished.”

Not only did they ban the offenders, but every single one was listed in the banning as well for some good old fashioned public shaming. Some of my favorite names (when translated) included “Shake Your Perky Butt,” “DVAismywife,” “Big Brother bitch mound disco,” and “Blizzard I am your father yo,” among others. Stay classy China.

It’s interesting to see such an active role already being taken when it comes to cheaters. Often times a developer may turn a blind eye to cheaters while they’re still raking in the dollars, feigning ignorance. Instead, Blizzard decided to ice the offenders using the endothermic blaster like they’re Mei-Ling Zhou. (She is the Chinese character in the game, hailing from Xi’an

If you haven’t noticed, Overwatch has been a grand slam for Blizzard, with over seven million players so far. To put that into perspective, one in every thousand people in the world have the game. (Yes, some people probably have two or more copies.) With Blizzard protecting the integrity of the game as much as they can, we might have the next classic on our hands here. Keep doing what you’re doing Blizzard, it’s A-Mei-zing!
