Slickster Magazine @ PopCon Indy 2019 Day 1

Well shit, it looks like it’s not Indy PopCon anymore. It’s PopCon Indy now we guess. Because that makes sense right? Totally makes sense. 100%… Alright, now that I’m done being a pedantic little shit let’s talk some god damn turkey! Actually, we’re going to talk about our experiences at PopCon Indy, but I’m being a pedantic little shit again so I’ll stop.

PopCon Indy 2019: A Change of PaceIndy PopCon

This year we saw a smaller amount of game developers, unfortunately. In fact, there were so few game developers, that we decided that this year we will not be doing awards for the event because there just aren’t enough games for us to be able to sustain everything. But that being said, we’ve had a great crop of games for you to check out for all you nerds. We’ve seen a return by Dodeca System games, as well as some other fan favorites like Swipe Scape.  These games have seen continuous improvements from the past few years. And while I know that I won’t be getting my name anywhere near the leaderboards, the game remains as addictive as ever.

We’d also like to give some special shoutouts to two, especially awesome games if ya don’t mind. That would be the tabletop RPG system Nights of Yore, and the awesome board game that is Bellum. (That would be Latin for War by the way.) So what are these awesome and amazing games?

Nights of Yore

How many of you are fucking tired of your Dungeons and Dragons campaign just going to shit? It’s been 3 years of just going and going and going… and going. It takes forever, building characters is a bitch… it just takes the fun out of the whole point of doing tabletop RPGs. Well, don’t you worry because Nights of Yore has turned the whole process into a streamlined application for you on your mobile device. And by streamlined I mean: It makes your characters for you. It does all your rolls for you. It does story progression automatically, it’s just the ultimate system for anybody interested. This can turn the several hour processes that can be developing your character for the campaign, to just two presses of the phone. Holy shit.

Bellum

Bellum is what happens when you merge the majesty of chess with the brutality of Magic: The Gathering. Why would MTG be considered a brutal game? Well, excuse me for thinking a game that involves the mutual attempts at utter destruction for the enemy to be brutal. Magic don’t fuck around y’all. But then again, neither does Bellum. A card game developed on the idea of moving your team into the right position to decimate your enemy’s lair? Awww yeah. It’s a good time for whoever didn’t lose their shit in the middle of the game.

This is just a very small instance of some of the amazing things that we’ve seen so far this year at PopCpn Indy. So you know what that means right? It means that it’s time for you to stay on the site because we’ll be releasing a lot more information and images, articles, podcasts, and maybe even videos of everything. Thanks for listening guys, Slickster will be back soon!
