Nightcrawler

Nightcrawler releases a new album.

Spain’s contribution to electronic music is not to be overlooked.

11/25/2017 – With the success of comic book action movie blockbusters, many new fans have been introduced to characters that might not have known.  Hailing from the Marvel Universe is one of the most popular X-men: Nightcrawler.   The name itself conjures dark and terrifying images, which aptly describes one of Spain’s rising new talents in the electronic music scene.  The artist known as Nightcrawler newest album is just that.  Exploring the dark side of synthwave, aptly dubbed ‘darksynth’, there are undertones of the nastier side of music…. and human nature.

We caught up with Nightcrawler just in time for his new video game OST collaboration and to chat about the music scene in Spain.

When will the new album, Beware of the Humans be released?

The album has been out since October 17th. [LINK]

Nightcrawler
Nightcrawler is one of the most beloved X-men from Marvel Comics.

Nightcrawler is a famous character from the Marvel Universe.  He is a member of the X-men and often represents the moral compass of the super hero team.  Did Stan Lee’s NightCrawler in any way influence you when choosing your stage name?

Yeah, I knew of him before starting the Nightcrawler project, but I chose that name because of his literal translation since it fit very well with the dark style of music I do.

Spain is known for it’s long standing tradition of musical excellence, but it is not generally considered at forefront of electronic music.  Is this stigma beginning to change?  How is the music scene in Spain developing at the end of 2017?

In Spain we have one of the most important festivals of electronic music in the world called Sonar Festival, but it’s true that electronic music in spain is a bit less important than in the rest of europe. But it’s also true that nowadays the true talent is more in the underground. For example Waste Records is putting really nice music out.

The title of your newest album is ‘Beware of the humans‘.  Who should be wary of humans?

The human being is capable of the best, but also of the worst.  The album makes a bit of criticism in this concept.  The worst enemy of humanity is ourselves in many occasions… The apple is more than rotten. Everyday I see injustices in the news or in my facebook timeline…  That kind of stuff is what inspired me in the development of this album.

Jägermeister Galaxy Hunter, synthwave, nightcrawler

You recently had a collaboration Jägermeister.  How did that come around and what challenges did it present to you as a synthwave artist?

I joined the roster of artists of Jägermusic in 2016 and I have played in several festivals in the stages that they sponsor.   Now they have just published a retro style videogame called Jägermeister Galaxy Hunter, inspired in the 80s, in which i produced the BSO.  It will come out on vinyl in mid-december.  I am very happy to collaborate with them with my music.
